CHAN(N)EL YOU, Digital, ART 104: Foundation New Media, 2014

By the time I reached my sophomore year at St. Olaf College, I had extensive art-making experience across the disciplines of dance, music, theater, and the visual arts. Within the visual arts alone, I had developed my artistic skill by engaging with a multitude of mediums such as clay, wood, paint, and a plethora of drawing materials. On top of learning the ways in which I could use conventional or traditional materials for making art, I also acquired proficient skill with digital programs such as Blender, Final Cut Pro, Weebly, Wix, and Audacity.

However, while excited for brief moments by each phase in my artistic journey, nothing has energized my creativity as much as Adobe Creative Suite's Photoshop.

Without an introduction to Photoshop via ART 104: Foundation New Media, I strongly believe I would not be where I am today. Through Photoshop, I found "my" medium and, consequentially, myself. I discovered that Photoshop could do what no other medium could: effortlessly combine any and all artistic practices together. With Photoshop I could distill my artistic interests, as well as, my workspace. And at the same time, Photoshop encouraged me to expand my horizons and incorporate any type of medium into my designs.

Having actively pursued a career in graphic design ever since, today I now have under my belt a breadth of clients, a growing set of digital skills, and a sizable portfolio that displays my development as a graphic designer.
