The Cherry Orchard, 2015, Illustration and Digital Design

For the St. Olaf Theater Department's production of Anton Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard, I was approached by Director Gary Gisselman to create the show's poster design. Inspired by the artist Jean Jacques Sempé's light and ethereal illustrations, I created multiple watercolor drawings that were later compiled into Photoshop. By Gisselman's request, this poster design was meant to be beautiful but was also meant to signify a resistance or ignorance to change. Even after the orchard has been condemned to its destruction - as is illustrated by the felled tree -  the family still cannot come to terms with reality, attempts to live as if nothing has changed, and continues to engage in everyday rituals such as drinking the coffee they love dearly.
